  • Story: - 5/5
    • Like watching the introduction to Harvest Moon and then being told 'Game Over'.
Aside from establishing in the most basic way, why the player is taking care of
this farm, there is zero plot. However, luckily, this game doesn't lend itself well to heavy plot.

    • I weighted this category heaviest because in a simple text only game, everything better damned well work. Unfortunately, that isn't the case. There are numerous minor and major bugs which serve as proof this one was thought up as late as the two days before the end of the compo.

      - When you buy feed, the quantity FLIES by on my computer.

      - I bought two chocobos and bred one from them, but my choco count remained at 2.

      - Some time into the game I'd buy feed. My money went down, my feed didn't go up.

      - The keyboard input code was spotty at best, many times key presses were ignored.

      - Each time I raced, one of the NPC chocobos turned into my chocobo. No kidding. I was getting 1st,2nd,3rd,4th and 5th in every race and winning my bets everytime! yee haw!

      - Although I had time to appreciate every detail this game had to offer by this point...

    • You made a text only game. Great idea! You made it graphical, used an oversized font, and put in an RPG creation engine. Hmm..

You had no music, which is perfect for this type of game; I'd rather play my own and relax with some chocobo breeding for ten minutes a day after a long day at work. You had no graphics, which I guess, was the point. So why did I dock you ten points? In a text game I want descriptions. Tell me about the bustling town where chocobo folk are going about their business. The smell of hay and sounds of chocobos in the barn. I can't help but feel if the font wasn't so oversized we would have had more to sink our teeth into...

"Your heart races as you enter the track. Tension lingers in the air. This is what you've been working towards. You eye up your chocobos and decide on: ...... You examine your competition - but you aren't nervous.. You know that 'Greased Lightning' can win!" Or not.

    • This game is fun in that "I want to play this quickly and simply to relax" kind of way. It is what it is and if it were free of the major bugs, it would be great fun for those busy management types who have a secret love for chocobos. However, for those jobless management types, there isn't a lot of variance. All aspects of play are simple. Taking care of the chocobos, buying them, breeding them, training them, racing them. A cute game with all the complexity of a tomogatchi.
      "Your chocobo trained bad."

This game was what is was. That is, a text only game created in two days. On that note, it's shortcomings are understandable. I love text games, but the lack of content in the one and only place content can be delivered is dissapointing. The game is fun but the few major bugs make that shortlived. To me this game has it's place amoung the quickies at the end of the day.. like an oldstyle BBS doorgame- and within that territory, I enjoy it. If you added a quick animation of the racing, and some variance on breeding even this would be a lot better. Ultimately, you're only failing was lack of time. Thanks a lot for the game :)
